COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION LABORER

SUMMARY:

 

Laborers perform tasks involving physical labor to support craft trades (carpenters, ironworkers, etc.) as well as the fulfillment of general conditions in support of construction projects.  Their work is essential to maintaining an efficient, organized work crew and project site.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

 

  • Prepping sites, demolition, dig pits, trenches, and foundations, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth.
  • Mobilize and organizes tools, equipment, and supplies to and from construction sites.
  • Operate tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, concrete mixers, rotary-hammers, concrete vibrators, shovels, etc.
  • Assemble scaffold, ladders, and other tools and equipment to provide access for workers.
  • Build, position, dismantle, and clean concrete formwork.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Direct traffic (flagging) to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crews.
  • Climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints.
  • Work in varied and inclement weather conditions.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts and within loud noise levels.

 

 

EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS:

 

  • 2 years of commercial labor work experience preferred.
  • Provide reliable transportation to and from assigned varied work sites.
  • Adhere to safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and reasonable driving record.
  • 10-hour OSHA training (within six months of hire).
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred, but not mandatory.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs.
  • Sitting (or driving), using hands, arm, & fingers, standing, climbing ladders/stairs & scaffold, and walk over uneven terrain.
  • Communication using the spoken word, ability to see within normal parameters, and hear within a normal range.
  • Pass drug screening test.
